Learning Activity – Video
Language – Spoken English with Captions
As professional interpreters, we don’t often have opportunities to take an in-depth look at our interpreting or transliterating product. Even less frequent are opportunities to compare what we do to other interpreters and transliterators. This activity provides up-to-date stimulus materials with a variety of scenarios that mirror settings and topics encountered by interpreters. Included in the series are model interpretations and transliterations from a variety of working practitioners. In addition, there are opportunities to perform detailed self-analysis for individual self-directed learning and skill development.
The focus of this activity is interpreting and transliterating formal speeches. In this module you will have the opportunity to interpret and transliterate for a 10 minute Graduation Speech.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to
- Participants will be able to analyze a sample spoken text and determine issues that can make interpreting the text more difficult.
- Participants will be able to identify the differences and similarities between sample interpretations.
- Participants will be able to identify the differences and similarities between sample transliterations.
