This workshop will focus on ways to use Deliberate Practice to improve interpreters ASL and English interpreting product. Participants will learn techniques to apply Deliberate Practice in their product by engaging in a hands-on approach through videoing their ASL/English product and counting errors with the intent to lower the number of errors over a period of time. The workshop will show techniques to simplify Deliberate Practice that will allow for greater opportunity for improvement using the SMART strategy. Interpreters will be asked to bring a device that will allow them to video their own product and review the product in small groups. The goal is to learn techniques that participants can take with them and apply to their personal interpreting practice once they have completed the workshop.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to
- Identify areas of improvement needed in the ASL and English product.
- Demonstrate specific techniques used in Deliberate Practice.
- Apply the SMART strategy in order to work through their own products.
