Learning Activity – Video
Language – ASL
Explore how psycholinguistics shape perception and behavior in this workshop. Taking a thousand foot view of language itself, we’ll examine manipulative language, what words connote/denote, and how these “Word Weapons” affect interpreting choices, our Deaf clients, and even, unwitting bystanders.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to
- Examine real-world examples of “Word Weapons”, identifying how and why they’re used in conversation.
- Analyze everyday words/phrases for their real meanings.
- Apply a broadened awareness of, and be able to better wield, these linguistic skills to improve interpreter output.
CEUs on the GO is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This PS program is offered for 0.175 CEUs at the “Little/None” Content Knowledge Level.
